Despedida is a Spanish word meaning “farewell”. High School is such a pivotal point in a young adult's life. Decisions made here are the start of what we do for the rest of our lives. This piece is a reflection of my time in High School and every thing I learned about myself as a person. It is also a compositional love letter for the time I spent in a secondary education band. Being in a music program at a young age was the start of something beautiful that ignited a spark within me. So much so that I have decided to devote my life to music. I truly can not imagine my life without music and it all started in a small band room with great peers and amazing teachers. Despedida, it is a goodbye and it is farewell. It is a representation of the beautiful journey that awaits all High School students. This piece is a story of a calling meant for young adults to move forward and do something great and beautiful.

This composition was written in 2023 and is dedicated to my alma mater, Baker High School. It was commissioned by my former band director, Stuart Campbell.

The world premiere of this composition was on May 4th, 2023 by the Baker High School Band in Baker, FL. It was conducted by band director Stuart Campbell.
