Mi Corazon (Score Only)
Mi Corazón , which translates to “my heart” in Spanish, is a composition based on the first four lines of one of E.E. Cummings’ most iconic poems, i carry your heart with me (i carry it in). The excerpt reads:
i carry your heart with me (i carry it
in my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
This piece was written with the idea of love in mind, specifically, the deep love a man shares for his wife. During my four years at Troy University, I have been fortunate to share many special moments with Dr. B and Mrs. Blackstock. At one point, I even had the opportunity to perform alongside Dr. Blackstock while Mrs. Blackstock conducted. Both Dr. B and Mrs. Blackstock are remarkable individuals doing extraordinary things. The love they share for each other is truly inspiring. It is always a joy to hear Dr. Blackstock speak about his wife and their daughter, Ella. Likewise, it is equally heartwarming to hear Mrs. Blackstock talk about her students at Brantley High School, where she serves as a dedicated music educator. Her passion and commitment are reflected in the excellence of her band. Thank you, Dr. B and Mrs. Blackstock, for all you have done for me and for the music community. I wish your family a long, happy, and prosperous life.
